A year ago, Eli & I went to Mason City to meet with a therapist to help with Eli's aggressive meltdowns(which are few & far between, but still there). She did not think that she could be helpful, so not knowing where to turn, I did nothing. After Eli went through a very difficult time this spring, I decided it was time to resume the search. This time I found a place in Ames. The plan was to start seeing someone in June, but our insurance did not cover Mental Health so we had to add that first. In July, we met with a therapist twice, but have now decided not to continue with him because he does not know much about autism and thinks Eli could be better served somewhere else. (sigh) He did give us some ideas on where to go.....next stop-Blank Children's Hospital in Des Moines. So although I am disappointed & frustrated & really not looking forward to starting all over, I will push on because the thing is, I would travel to the moon for that child if I had to.
And the trip to Ames was not a total waste as we made a stop at Sam's Club and I will not need to buy toothpaste or tampons for quite some time.
